28 People Killed In Himachal Pradesh As Bus Falls Into Gorge In Shimla

New Delhi: In Himachal Pradesh, at least 28 people were killed and 9 injured when a bus they were travelling on fell into a deep gorge in Shimla district on Thursday. The accident occurred near Khaneri of Rampur sub division about 9:30 AM. The bus was on its way to Solan from RecongPeo. State Transport Minister GS Bali has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident.

Governor AcharyaDevvrat, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Opposition Leader Prem Kumar Dhumal have expressed condolences over the tragic mishap. Virbhadra Singh has directed administration to provide all the necessary relief to the kin of deceased and to the injured.

Right To Privacy Can Be Regulated, Says Apex Court

New Delhi:Supreme Court has pronounced that Right to privacy cannot be an absolute right and the State may have some power to put reasonable restriction, the Supreme Court said today while examining whether it can be declared as a fundamental right under the Constitution. 

A nine-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar, also asked the Centre and others to assist it about the "contours" and ambit of test on which the width and scope of right to privacy and its infringement, if any, by the State would be tested. 

The bench then referred to the apex court judgement, criminalising gay sex and said if right to privacy was construed in its widest sense, then the verdict in the Naz Foundation case "would become vulnerable".

No Liquor Ban Planned For Uttar Pradesh, Revenue To Be Used For Public Welfare

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has ruled out banning liquor in the state, saying the revenue from excise was used for public welfare and developmental schemes. 

State Excise Minister Jai Pratap Singh said in the state Assembly, "The revenue from excise is used in public welfare and developmental schemes of the state. Banning liquor sale will indirectly promote illicit liquor sale and people will start purchasing from illegal sources which will adversely affect their health.

No Major Chinese Troop Mobilization In Tibet, Says India

New Delhi: Refusing Chinese media report of troop mobilization in Tibet, India has asserted that there has been no major troop mobilization by China towards the Line of Actual Control in the entire stretch from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.

India also clarified that recent military exercises conducted by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Tibet did not raise "any red flags" in the Indian security establishment till now.

This comes after reports in the Chinese media claimed that the PLA is making battle preparations by moving large quantities of military equipment and vehicles closer to the Sikkim border in Tibet.
