28 People Killed In Himachal Pradesh As Bus Falls Into Gorge In Shimla

New Delhi: In Himachal Pradesh, at least 28 people were killed and 9 injured when a bus they were travelling on fell into a deep gorge in Shimla district on Thursday. The accident occurred near Khaneri of Rampur sub division about 9:30 AM. The bus was on its way to Solan from RecongPeo. State Transport Minister GS Bali has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident.

Governor AcharyaDevvrat, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Opposition Leader Prem Kumar Dhumal have expressed condolences over the tragic mishap. Virbhadra Singh has directed administration to provide all the necessary relief to the kin of deceased and to the injured. 

The driver of this ill-fated bus suddenly lost control and within seconds it went out of the road taking the lives of 28 people. The bus fell down near the banks of Sutlej River about 250 meters down from the road. 

It broke into several pieces and most of the people died on the spot but the driver and conductor are said to be injured. The people from nearby Rampur town immediately rushed to the spot and helped authorities in rescue operation. All the bodies have been recovered from the spot.
