Cars to Predict Heart Attacks Soon

New Delhi: Scientists are developing a new system that can predict if a car driver is about to have a heart attack. This new system would help avoid road accidents due to an unexpected cardiac event.

Experiencing a heart attack behind the wheel can be dangerous – not only for the driver, but also for passengers and fellow motorists.

In the hope of reducing this risk, Toyota is developing new technology that can predict such an event and bring the car to a safe stop. Toyota is working alongside Michigan Medicine to develop the technology.

Dr Kayvan Najarian, from University of Michigan in the US, who is leading the study, said “A large number of traffic incidents are caused by medical conditions while driving, specifically cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infraction and myocardial ischemia, "The medical event interferes with the driver's ability to safely drive and operate the car, causing the accident.”
