Landslides halt ChardhamYatra in Uttarakhand, pilgrims stuck

New Delhi: In Uttarakhand, Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway has been blocked due to landslide near Vishnuprayag in Chamoli district on Friday evening. 
Border Road Oorganisation personnel have been pressed into service to clear the debris. According to BRO,  road will be cleared by Saturday afternoon. District Administration has adviced Char-Dham pilgrims to stay at safer places.


After the landslide, at least 1,183 pilgrims were stranded in Govindghat, 900 at Joshimath and 450 at Pandukeshwar from moving ahead, said an official. They have been accommodated in nearby hotels, lodges, gurdwaras and guest houses, he added. 
Around 11,000 pilgrims were at Badrinath for darshan at the time of the landslide.
