Suvendu Adhikari threatened us with tax raids in Assembly, claim TMC MLAs

"I had clearly heard him (Suvendu Adhikari). He had said that he would send Income Tax officials to my residence," Kalyani alleged.

Speaking on the issue, Mamata Banerjee said the incident proved who controls the Income Tax Department in West Bengal. "It proves who controls the central agency in the state. I would request the Speaker to take care of it," she said, reported news agency PTI.

Another MLA, Soumen Rai, alleged that he too was threatened with I-T raids by the BJP leader when he spoke against Suvendu Adhikari's objection to Mamata Banerjee's speech. "I have informed the Speaker," he said.

Krishna Kalyani had contested and won the election on a BJP ticket. He joined the TMC in October, 2021 after a showcause notice was served to him by the BJP for speaking against the party's Raiganj MP and former Union Minister Debasree Chaudhuri. Soumen Rai won the Kaliang Assembly Seat in 2021 on a BJP ticket before defecting to the Trinamool Congress.

Both MLAs switched over to Mamata Banerjee's party last year without giving up membership of the House. They have not been disqualified yet under the anti-defection law.
