Haridwar Dharam Sansad: FIR lodged, no arrests made over hate speech

The FIR has been registered under IPC Section section 153A -- promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language.

The police said they are not in possession of any footage of last week's event yet. The Uttarakhand Police said that they are keeping an eye on the situation. Haridwar Superintendent of Police Swatantra Kumar Singh said, "The police are monitoring the situation."

The three-day Dharam Sansad was organised by Yati Narasimhanand Giri of Juna Akhada - who is already under police scanner for making hate speeches and inciting violence against minorities in the past.

Yati Narsinghanand reportedly said "arming the Hindu brigade with bigger and better weapons" would be the "solution" against the "threat of Muslims."

The event, which has been referred to as 'Haridwar Hate Assembly', has been condemned by several political parties.

The Trinamool Congress national spokesman, Saket Gokhale, lodged a complaint in this connection at Jwalapur police station in Haridwar asking the SHO to register an FIR in the matter within 24 hours. Gokhale said if no arrests are made by December 27, then a complaint will be made to a judicial magistrate.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said "Hindutvawadis have always spread hatred and violence" and all communities pay the price for it. Taking to microblogging site Twitter, "The Hindutvavadis always spread hatred and violence. Hindus-Muslims-Sikhs-Christians pay its price. But not anymore!"

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called it despicable and demanded the strictest action. "Strictest action should be taken against those who incite hatred and violence of this kind. It is despicable that they should get away with making an open call to murder our respected ex-PM and unleash violence against people of different communities," she wrote on Twitter.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Twitter said: "Incitement to genocide is not routine.

Decent societies don't tolerate intolerant speech. Call to arms for a war against fellow citizens must not be ignored

#HaridwarGenocidalSummit wasn't 'fringe. This isn't the time to be shocked, it's a time to actively counter radicalisation."
