Air Chief BS Dhanoa writes to his officers to be combat ready

In a first of its kind move, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, the Chief of Air Staff, asked officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) “to be prepared for operations with our present holdings, at a very short notice”. He wrote a personal letter to each officer to this effect.
Writing personal letter to officers in the force is rare in the Indian Army. Two Army chiefs, Field Marshal (then General) KM Cariappa and and General K Sundarji have written such letters on May 1, 1950 and February 1, 1986, respectively.

Airbase In Libya

141 killed in attack on Tripoli airbase in Libya

An attack on an airbase in south of Tripoli, Libya killed 141 people, mostly soldiers loyal to military strongman Khalifa Haftar. Members of the Third Force militia loyal to the UN-backed Government of National Accord in Tripoli attacked the base used by Haftar's self-proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA). 
LNA spokesman Ahmad al-Mesmari late yesterday said the victims included civilians who worked at the Brak al-Shati airbase or were in the nearby area, also reporting that summary executions took place.

Rishikesh-Badrinath highway reopens; pilgrims resume onward journey

The Rishikesh-Badrinath highway, in Uttarakhand, has been reopened this evening for vehicular traffic. The road was blocked near Vishnuprayag yesterday evening following heavy landslides from Hathiparwat. Chamoli SDM Jitendra singh said this talking to All India Radio.
BRO personnel were engaged day and night in clearing the debris. The stranded pilgrims have now started moving to their destinations both ways. With the opening of the road, Badrinath Yatra is now running smoothly.

NGT Bans

NGT bans open defecation on Yamuna floodplains

NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today banned open defecation and dumping of waste on the floodplains of the Yamuna and announced an environment compensation of Rs 5,000 for those who violated the order.
A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar also constituted a committee headed by Delhi Jal Board CEO to oversee the execution of work pertaining to cleaning of the river and asked it to submit reports at regular intervals.

Cabinet decision soon to wind up Foreign Investment Promotion Board: Nirmala Sitharaman

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today informed that the Union Cabinet will soon take a call on the winding up of 25-year-old Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). 
The minister was briefing the media, in New Delhi, on the initiatives and achievements of the ministry in the last three years.
On development of the North Eastern states, Sitharaman said her ministry is working on a new policy for the industrial development of the region. The North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy - 2007 has ended this year.
