Tiwari goes into a sulk, runs party office from home

New Delhi:  The infighting in Delhi BJP has touched nadir with state president Manoj Tiwari deciding even not to attend his office at Pandit Pant Marg. On Thursday he at the last minute shifted the venue of the Press Conference from Pant Marg to his North Avenue residence.
Tiwari’s annoyance emanates from the influence being wielded by the troika comprising national vice president in charge of Delhi Shyam Jaju, general secretary (organization) K Sidharthan and state general secretary Kuldeep Chahal.
The impact of this ongoing clash in evident as several important decisions regarding appointment to various political offices in the corporation and also the party remains pending.

Sonia meets leaders today to cobble together Opposition to Kovind

New Delhi: Opposition parties are meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the Presidential election and their choice of Presidential candidate. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of opposition leaders in this regard.

Congress has said that decision by the BJP to choose Ram NathKovind as the NDA nominee for Presidential elections was taken unilaterally. Senior party leader GhulamNabi Azad had alleged that name of Kovind was not discussed with Congress Party.

Darjeeling tea gardens hit hard by Gorkhaland bandh

New Delhi: The indefinite shutdown in Darjeeling hills due to the indefinite strike called by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) for a separate Gorkhaland has hit hard its famed tea industry. The premium quality ‘second flush’ tea leaves are going waste due to the strike causing heavy losses to the garden owners and putting at stake the livelihood of more than two lakh tea-garden workers. Darjeeling is home to 87 tea gardens and the ongoing shutdown has pushed them to the brink. The tea garden owners feel  that they will be losing 45 per cent of their yearly revenue.
