Ordinance factories plan to reduce import of defence spares by 50 percent

New Delhi: The Army has decided to fast-track indigenisation of key components and spares for battle tanks and other military systems.The Ordnance Factory Board, an umbrella body of 41 ordnance factories, has decided to bring down import of spares and components from current 60% annually to 30% in the next three years.

Shun “Lal Batti” Culture, Prime Minister Tells Party MPs

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised his party MPs to shun even the mindset of "lal-batti" (red light) after banning VIPs from using beacon lights on their vehicles.

In a meeting with party MPs from western Uttar Pradesh at his official residence, Modi gave several tips to the lawmakers of which his main focus was that party leaders should mingle with common man and there should not be any hierarchy.

Modi government had banned the use of beacon lights from May 1 this year on all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, aiming to end the "VVIP culture". This was the second interaction of Modi with party MPs after he held the first one on Thursday with MPs from eastern UP.

Fake Chinese Spares Found Being Used In Maintenance Of Bofors Guns

New Delhi: CBI has registered a case against a Delhi-based company after it detected that China-made parts camouflaged as 'Made in Germany' found their way to the production line of indigenised Bofors guns used by the army.

Besides Sidh Sales Syndicate, the CBI also registered a case against unidentified officials of the Guns Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur, under criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery for supplying fake and cheap China-made spares passing off as Made in Germany for Dhanush guns, the FIR alleged.

Grand Send-Off Planned For Statesman President Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi: Preparations are final to bid farewell to outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee, who will move out of the Rashtrapati Bhawan officially on July 25, making way for the President-elect Ramnath Kovind to take his place in the highest constitutional office of the country on the same day.

After new President Kobind is sworn in on July 25 morning, and Mukherjee and he have switched chairs, both of them will come down to the Central Hall of Parliament together where Kovind will make his acceptance speech. After that, accompanied by a cabinet minister Mukherjee will drive down to his new home in Lutyens' Delhi at 10, Rajaji Marg, and Kobind will head for Rashtrapati Bhawan.
