New Delhi: Leader of Congress Legislative party and former Chief Minister of Gujarat Shankarsinh Vaghela has resigned from the party. Vaghela announced this at a Sam-Samvedna Samelan- a convention held in Gandhinagar on his 77th birthday on Friday.

Addressing his supporters, Vaghela said that he resigned from the Congress but not from public life. He said that he will never compromise with the self-respect. He said that he is not going to join BJP or any other political party in the state.

Attacking the State Congress leaderships, Vaghela alleged that state party leaders were constantly conspiring to oust him from the party. Meanwhile, State Congress Spokesperson Manish Doshi said that Congress has not expelled Shakarsinh Vaghela from the party.

Earlier, State Congress had instructed the party MLA and leaders not to attend the convention called by Vaghela on his birthday. Party had also warned of strict disciplinary action against the MLAs who attended the Convention.
