US House of Representatives has initiated a session to impeach outgoing President Donald Trump. In a tweet earlier on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) said, "Tonight, I have the solemn privilege of naming the Managers of the impeachment trial of Donald Trump."
Trump has been charged with 'incitement of insurrection'.
Democrat Nancy Pelosi named Jamie Raskin, Diana DeGette, David Cicilline, Joaquin Castro, Eric Swalwell, Ted Lieu, Stacey Plaskett, Madeleine Dean and Joe Neguse as Representatives who will manage the impeachment in the House.
The House is currently debating the impeachment motion moved against Donald Trump. If the process falls through, Trump will be the first US President to have been impeached twice.
Earlier on Tuesday, a similar effort by House Democrats to ask Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump from office before the end of his term was blocked by Republicans. The 25th Amendment enables the Vice President to invoke constitutional authority and remove a president before the end of the term if the president is found to be 'unfit for office'.
A similar resolution was voted by 223 to 205 votes in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Trouble mounted for outgoing President Donald Trump after his supporters stormed the US Capitol building in Washington earlier this month in an attempt to prevent the US Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College win in the November 3 presidential election. Trump, who has been accused by both Republicans and Democrats of instigating the crowd with baseless claims of election fraud, later condemned the violence but refused to concede.
