Microsoft Ending Its Smart Band Fitness Tracker Service

New Delhi:Microsoft is ending support for its "Health Dashboard" applications and services for its smart-band fitness tracker. It will refund all users whose devices are still under warranty. The company is offering $79.99 for Band 1 owners and $175 for Band 2 devices. "On May 31, the 'Microsoft Health Dashboard' site will be shut down and Microsoft Band applications will be removed from the Microsoft Store, Google Play and Apple App store," the software giant announced via a blog-post on Friday.

Active Microsoft Band users, who have used the band and completed a data sync to the "Health Dashboard" between December 1, 2018 and March 1, 2019 are also eligible for refunds by the company. It is to be claimed by August 30. Although the web connected features will no longer be available, the users can continue to set alarms and track daily health information, activity data, as well as sleep analytics.

Google Releasing New Update For Its Search Browser Chrome 72

New Delhi: Google is rolling out the new update for its search browser, Chrome 72, with bug fixes, security updates and newer features like external storage access for Android apps including microSD cards and USB drives along with Picture in Picture (PiP) mode for Chrome sites. With Chrome 72, Google has optimised the browser for touchscreen devices in tablet mode and added app shortcuts for Android apps that are now searchable in the launcher, the company wrote in a blog post on Saturday.

"Users can find an app shortcut by long pressing or right-clicking on an Android app," the post said. The update also brings Google Assistant and Android 9 Pie to more Chromebooks after a short testing period on the 'Pixel Slate' device.

For Web Application Attacks India Is The 7th Most Targeted Nation, Says Report

New Delhi: Nearly 40 per cent of over 53,000 cyber attacks in India occurred in the financial services sector during 2017, placing it at the seventh spot in the list of targeted countries for Web Application Attacks (WAA), a new report said on Wednesday.

Security incidents like phishing, website intrusions and defacements, virus and ransomware targeted the rapidly growing Banking, Financial services and Insurance (BFSI) sector in India, warranting a robust infrastructure and planned roadmap for cybersecurity, said the report from content delivery network services Akamai Technologies. 

“A key motive of attackers has always been financial profit. In the past few years, we have seen adversaries move to more direct methods to achieve that goal such as ransomware,” noted Martin McKeay, Senior Security Advocate at Akamai.
