India were put to the test on a two-paced pitch at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow by defending champions England in their World Cup 2023 match on Sunday, October 29. After having bossed chases for 5 wins in as many matches in the tournament, India were asked to bat first in their 6th match and it was not an easy affair for the all-powerful Indian batting line-up.

India finished with 229 for 9 in 50 overs and continued their streak of not getting bowled out in World Cup 2023 even once. India remain the only side in the tournament to not get bowled out.

India lost their 9th wicket on the last delivery of the Indian innings as they were helped by a 21-run partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav. Bumrah was run-out when India tried to steal an extra run of a bye in the final delivery.

are playing very well and England are not playing so

Rohit Sharma held the innings together as the Indian top-order suffered a rare failure. Chris Woakes was on the money, getting Shubman Gill out bowled for 9 in the first powerplay. Virat Kohli suffered a rare failure as he was out for 0 to David Willey while Shreyas Iyer was undone by the short ball once again.

However, Rohit and KL Rahul steadied the Indian innings with a 91-run stand for the 4th wicket before the wicketkeeper-batter threw it away. Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav were brisk but the India captain threw it away at the wrong time, trying to go after Adil Rashid in the 37th over, falling for 87.

Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 49 after having suffered a horror run-out in his first World Cup knock. Suryakumar's knock was crucial as India went past 200 and posted a competitive total for their bowlers to work with.
