Team India took a massive leap towards gaining control of the first Test against Australia after a superb performance with the ball on Day 2 at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
Ravichandran Ashwin and the Indian pace attack once again proved why they are one of the best attacks in the world as they bowled Australia out for 191 to give the visitors a first-innings lead of 53 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah started the damage early in the first session by removing both openers Matthew Wade and Joe Burns leg-before wicket for 8 before Ravichandran Ashwin came into the attack and ran through the Aussie middle order with the wickets of Steve Smith (1), Travis Head (7) and debutant Cameron Green (11).
Ashwin's 3-wicket burst left Australia in trouble at 92 for 5 at tea on the second day. Umesh Yadav then stepped up and gave the duo good support from his end, picking the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne (47) and Pat Cummins (0) in the same over early in the final session.
Aussie skipper Tim Paine looked like the only batsman who came ready for a fight and tried to stitch partnerships with the lower order but kept losing partners at regular intervals. Paine remained unbeaten on 73 with Labuschagne being the other major contributor with 47 runs while rest all failed to stand up against Ashwin and Co.
Ashwin picked up his fourth wicket in the form of Nathan Lyon (10) before Umesh returned for another spell and sent Josh Hazlewood packing for 8 to wrap up the Aussie innings.
Ashwin finished with figures of 4 for 55, his best in Tests in Australia, while Umesh ended up with 3 for 40 and Bumrah bagged 2 for 52 as Ausrtalia failed to take a first innings lead in a day-night Test for the first time in 8 games.
Indian openers then had to negotiate a tricky period of 6 overs before the close of play which they couldn't do without losing a wicket.
Prithvi Shaw once again flopped with the bat as Pat Cummins found a gap between his bat and pad to castle him for 4. India decided to send in nightwatchman Jasprit Bumrah (0*), who managed to survive and protect Mayank Agarwal (5*) to take India to 9 for 1 in 6 overs at the end of day's play with a lead of 62 runs.
Earlier, Australia captain Tim Paine's side needed just 22 minutes and 4.1 overs to wrap up India's first innings.
Pat Cummins removed Ashwin with the third ball of the day, when a regulation edge resulted in a catch for Paine. Mitchell Starc struck with his third delivery of the day, dismissing Wriddhiman Saha after the wicketkeeper's loose stroke resulted in another catch for Paine.
Starc also fired out Umesh Yadav to finish with figures of 4 for 53 from 21 overs as he enhanced his reputation as the world's best pink-ball bowler.
