India youngster Shubman Gill made his debut in the Boxing Day Test against Australia and has already made quite a mark in his very first match.
He went on to score 45 in his very first innings, which is the third-highest score by an Indian debutant in Australia, and was unbeaten on 35 in the second innings as India went on to win the Boxing Day Test by 8 wickets.
Many former cricketers such as Australia pace legend Glenn McGrath and former India pacer Ajit Agarkar have praised the batsman for his talent.
On Tuesday, former Australia batsman Michael Hussey heaped praise on Gill and said that his talent is such that he can go on to play for India for the next 10 years.
"Shubman Gill what a classy player. Here's a player who can play for the next 10 years for India. He looks classical and maybe he should have played the first Test in the first place," Michael Hussey said.
Shubman Gill became the 297th Test player to represent India when he was included in the squad for the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Gill has a fantastic first-class cricket record
After scoring 43 and 65 in the Pink-ball tour game, Shubman Gill was expected to feature in the series opener but Prithvi Shaw got the nod over him. Shaw was exposed badly by the Australia pacers and faced twin failures in Adelaide, ensuring a berth for Gill in the 2nd Test.
Gill has an incredible record in first-class cricket and has an average of 68.78. His is the second-highest first-class average for a batsman to make a debut for India. Vinod Kambli averaged 88.37 when he made his debut against England at Eden Gardens in 1993.
Hussey also praised the other debutant for India in the Boxing Day Test, Mohammad Siraj.
"Losing Mohammed Shami, I thought was going to really hurt India big time, but Siraj has come in and he's done a really good job; stepped in like he's been playing Test cricket for a number of years," Hussey added.
