A Delhi court on Friday sent Lalit Jha, the key accused arrested in connection with the Parliament security breach case, to seven-day police custody for in-depth interrogation to unearth the entire conspiracy.

Special Judge Hardeep Kaur remanded Jha in Delhi Police's custody after Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh said the accused has “confessed” that he is the “prime conspirator” in the case and that Jha was required to be taken to various states to recover evidence. Singh further stated that his phones need to be recovered to uncover the conspiracy.

The court passed the order on an application filed by the city police which sought his custody for 15 days.

The four other accused -- Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde -- were arrested and booked under sections of the anti-terror Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Wednesday and produced before Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur’s Court in Patiala House Thursday. They were remanded to police custody for seven days.

On Wednesday, while the four accused opened smoke cans inside and outside the Parliament and were apprehended from the spot, Lalit Jha, who had live-streamed the event, managed to escape with their ID cards and mobile phones.

In a major security breach, hours after leaders and lawmakers led the nation in paying tribute to those who died in the line of duty this day in 2001 during the terror attack on Parliament House, two men jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery, raised slogans and opened canisters that emitted yellow smoke, triggering panic among those present and raising questions of what if.
