India head coach Rahul Dravid said that he couldn't speak more highly of India captain Rohit Sharma after their loss in the final of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. Australia beat India by 6 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win their sixth ODI World Cup title.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Dravid said Rohit had invested a lot of time and energy in the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Rohit led India to 10 back-to-back win in the 2023 World Cup before losing the final against Australia in Ahmedabad.
"I just think he's given so much of his time and energy in addressing the boys. He's always been available for any of our conversations for any of our meetings. Sometimes a lot of planning, a lot of strategy goes in, and he's always committed to those things. He's given a lot of his time and energy into this campaign," said Dravid.
He went on to heap praise on his batting performance, saying he was fantastic throughout the tournament. Rohit scored 597 runs in 11 matches at an average of 54.27, while striking at 125.94.
"His batting as well has been fantastic. He really set the tone for us. He wanted to play a certain way, he wanted to play in a positive, attacking brand of cricket and has been very committed to that. He wanted to lead by example and he did. I can't speak more highly of him," Dravid added.
India came into their fourth ODI World Cup final, aiming to get revenge for their loss in the 2003 final. However, it wasn't meant to be as Rohit's men failed to stop the Australian juggernaut in Ahmedabad.
With this win, Australia lifted their record-extending sixth ODI World Cup trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
