Noida Metro Plans One City One Card, A Multi-Purpose Fare-Card, For Commuters

Noida: It is a fare-card that would take care of both the metro rides and cash withdrawal from ATMs. Once introduced, this card will fetch glory for Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) as no other existing metro network in the country has brought such a convenient multi-purpose facility for their commuters.

With a tentative date for beginning of metro train on 30km long aqua line between Noida and Greater Noida announced, NMRC decided to introduce one city one card with the throwing open metro operation for public on this route.

One city one card isn’t just limited to payments of fare for having rides of metro train or city buses run by NMRC but it would have facility of withdrawing cash from all bank ATM, making bill payments at restaurants and shopping malls.

According to top officer with NMRC, a team has already visited to Singapore recently and studied the technology used for charging fare to metro commuters and submitted the report with the corporation.

Atul Kumar Rai, additional chief executive officer with Noida, said that as per the policy, they visit a country for inspecting the technology before it is adopted. He confirmed that it is almost adopted. He said that the works are in progress for making of fare card. He said that currently they are planning that the fare card will be available at NMRC ticketing counters and in case demand is more, the bank will be ordered for produce more cards to meet the demand.

According to source with NMRC, a tender has been awarded to a nationalized bank for making cards for commuters. He said that though the bank is yet to give them details of functioning of cards but he is sure that it is going to be a multi-purpose card. He said that once the bank shares the detail, he would be in position of commenting on how it will be recharged.
