To mollify Vishwas, save party from split, Kejriwal rushes to Ghaziabad

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister on Tuesday made a last ditch attempt to douse fire in his party rushing to the residence of ‘upset’ party leader Kumar Vishwas. Kejriwal accompanied by his deputy, Manish Sisodia, met party founding member Kumar Vishwas who had lashed out at the top leadership after being accused by an MLA of 'plotting a coup'.

'Kumar Vishwas is upset, but I'm confident we will convince him,' the CM said after visiting the poet-turned-politician's house in Ghaziabad late on Tuesday night.

'He is an integral part of our movement.' The remarks came hours after Vishwas accused party leaders of conspiring against him and said he will soon take a call on future action.

The differences within the Aam Aadmi Party took a turn for the worse as a large number of MLAs forced resignation of Okhla legislator Amanatullah Khan from the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC). His resignation came after several AAP legislators demanded his sacking over allegations made by him against party leader Kumar Vishwas.

The disgruntled leader had differed with Delhi Chief Minister and party head Arvind Kejriwal on the issue of electronic voting machines (EVMs). He had refused to attribute the AAP's recent poll upsets to alleged manipulation of EVMs and had instead stressed on the need for introspection. Kejriwal on the other hand had tried to paper over the difference saying that Vishwas was like his brother.

After a PAC meeting in New Delhi on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the party leadership is upset with both Amanatullah Khan as well Kumar Vishwas for airing their differences in public. He said the PAC has accepted Khan's resignation and also discussed Vishwas’ absence from the meeting.

Amanatullah Khan, however, said he stood with his remarks against Vishwas. On Monday he accused Vishwas of plotting a coup in the party by calling MLAs to his residence and coaxing them to rebel against Kejriwal or to join the BJP.
