New Delhi: India has beaten New Zealand 3-0, in the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup being played at Ipoh in Malaysia. This is India's first win in the tournament. Harmanpreet Singh scored 2 goals while the other was scored by Mandeep Singh for India in the 2nd round robin match against New Zealand.
In their opening game yesterday, India played out a 2-2 draw against Britain. Akashdeep Singh and Mandeep Singh sounded the board for India, while for England, Tom Carson and Alan Forsyth were the goal scorers.
India next plays defending champion Australia on Tuesday.
Six nations - India, Malaysia, Australia, Great Britain, Japan and New Zealand - are taking part in the 8-day tournament which will be held in a round-robin format. Pakistan is not playing in the competition this year.
Australia are the defending champions, while India had finished runners up last year.
