New Delhi: Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javedekar today clarified that the government has no plan to remove Rabindranath Tagore from school textbooks.
Responding to the issue raised by Derek O'Brien of TMC during the Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha, Mr Javadekar said, for NCERT books, teachers and others have been asked to give suggestions to correct or remove any factual errors in textbooks.
The Minister said, the government respects Tagore and all others who had contributed to the freedom and literature of the country. He said, the government respects everybody and nothing will be removed.
Earlier, Mr Brien said, the HRD Ministry had called for suggestions and one of the suggestions from a RSS-affiliated outfit was to remove Tagore's works and references from the NCERT syllabus.
