New Delhi: At least 30 development schemes being run by Delhi government for the past two years are now under direct monitoring of the Union Home Secretary. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) recently reviewed the progress of development projects of all union territories and decided that the Home Secretary as well as the CEO of Niti Aayog will review all these projects on monthly basis. Soon after PMO’s review meeting, Niti Ayog sent a missive to the Chief Secretary Dr M M Kutty asking for monthly progress report.
“The Prime Minister’s Office reviewed the progress of developmental schemes. In the meeting it was decided that Niti Aayog in consultation with the Union Territories will break up the agreed targets into bi-monthly monitoring activities. Thereafter, the same targets will be monitored by Niti Aayog on a continuous basis and will be reviewed by Home Secretary and the CEO of Niti Aayog on a quarterly basis and the report will have to be furnished to PMO,” stated the Niti Aayog’s letter sent to the Delhi government’s Chief Secretary.
Niti Aayog has requested the chief secretary to depute a senior officer who will also be a nodal officer for providing the data to NITI Ayog on a monthly basis.
“Further, as per the direction of Prime Minister’s Office, NITI Aayog is taking an effort to create dashboard to monitor the developmental indicators and performance of the Government Schemes on continuous basis. The dashboard is expected to be rolled out within thirty days. Information on the dashboard will be shared during the meeting,” elaborated the NITI Aayog’s letter to the Chief Secretary.
Thus, all the major projects of Delhi government are now under the lens of NITI Aayog and also the PMO which, in turn, evaluate the mettle of Delhi’s political leadership to meet the high aspirations of Delhiites. Top ministers of Delhi government may not be able to blow their trumpet when every scheme will be evaluated by the Niti Aayog on monthly basis from July onwards.
