Saharanpur under heavy security cordon with two more companies of RAF

Heavy force has been deployed in Saharanpur since violence broke out on May 5. On Friday, the Centre provided two more companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) to the district administration in addition to the two companies of RAF that are already stationed there.
On Thursday, the Centre sought a report from the UP government on the continuing violence in Saharanpur. The Home Ministry asked for details of the incidents which began last month, and steps that had been taken to restore and maintain peace in the west UP district.

Rahul defies DM, heads for riot-hit Saharanpur village

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi left for Shabbirpur village in Saharanpur Saturday morning despite local administration’s refusal to grant him permission to visit the riot-hit western UP district citing law and order issues. 
Accompanied by UP Congress chief Raj Babbar and senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Congress leader is expected to reach reach Saharanpur around 1 pm.

Six militants killed by Army in their infiltration bid

The Army killed six militants on Saturday morning in a bid to prevent another attempt of infiltration along the Line of Control in Rampur sector. 
During a search operation in the region, the Army acted after troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Rampur sector in the early hours. “Operation abhi on hai. Militants phanse huye hain aur dono taraf se firing chal rahi hai (the operation is still on, militants are trapped and firing is going on from both ends),” an Army officer was quoted as saying.

EVM challenge: NCP, CPI-M throw their hats in the ring

While Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and CPI-M have agreed to participate in the EVM hacking challenge organised by the Election Commission on 3rd of next month, rest of the six parties, including the AAP and the Congress, did not come forward to accept the open challenge. 
The Commission announced yesterday that out of eight parties only Sharad Pawar's NCP and the CPI-M accepted the challenge.

HC upholds life sentence in BJP leader Brahmadutt Dwivedi murder case

New Delhi:The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has upheld the life sentence awarded by a trial court to former Samajwadi Party MLA Vijay Singh and his accomplice SanjeevMaheshwari alias Jeeva in connection with 20 years old murder of senior BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh Minister BrahmaduttDwivedi and his gunner. The CBI had conducted the probe into the case.
A division bench of the court comprising Justice AjaiLamba and Justice Vijay Laxmi has dismissed the appeals by the two convicts. In its order the court said that it has no hesitation to affirm the well merited findings recorded by the trial court.
