The BJP will hold a crucial Parliamentary meeting on Thursday as suspense continues over the selection of chief ministers for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh where the party recently won the assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with BJP MPs, will attend the meeting in the national capital, ANI reported.

Chouhan on Tuesday said that he has "never been a contender for the chief minister post".

"I will always do whatever work the party gives me with my full dedication, capacity and honesty. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is our leader and I always felt proud and happy working with him," Chouhan said when asked if he would continue as the chief minister.

In Rajasthan, several frontrunners have emerged for the top post, including former chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

According to sources, Raje is heading to New Delhi where she would be meeting the party high command on Thursday.

Besides Raje, former Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari, Union Minister and former Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and former Alwar MP Mahant Balaknath are also in contention for the top job.

In Chhattisgarh too, names of several leaders have surfaced as top contenders for the chief ministerial role.

Leaders such as Arun Sao and Gomati Sai, who resigned after their recent electoral victories on Wednesday, are leading candidates due to their social standing, public image and relatively youthful profiles.

Raman Singh (71), a three-term former chief minister, is also being talked about but there is a view that the BJP leadership is looking for a generational change in leadership.

The BJP swept the assembly elections in the three Hindi heartland states on December 3.

It won 163 of the 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, recording a landslide two-third majority. In Rajasthan, the saffron party won 115 of the 199 seats where polling took place. Whereas in Chhattisgarh, it won 54 seats in the 90-member assembly.
