An altercation started out between the Congress and the BJP across the country and also majorly in Rajasthan on Monday over the political development in Puducherry where the latter was reduced to a minority in the state assembly.
The Congress government in Puducherry fell on Monday after Chief Minister V Narayanasamy resigned ahead of the confidence vote in the Assembly with the coalition ministry reduced to a minority due to a spate of resignations of party MLAs and a DMK legislator recently.
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his cabinet colleagues in the Union Territory resigned on Monday after their government lost the confidence vote sought by him in the face of its depleted strength of 11 against the opposition's 14 in the 33-member Assembly.
The BJP has now slammed Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over his statement accusing the saffron party of destabilising Congress governments.
Rajasthan BJP President Dr Satish Poonia claimed that Congress had failed to fulfil its promises, be it in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh or Puducherry. "For how long would Congress put the onus on BJP for its failures," Poonia said.
"The public knows everything. Ashok Gehlot ji, first in Karnataka, then in Madhya Pradesh and then Puducherry, Congress government failed to fulfil its promises and how long will you impose your failures on the BJP. It is time for self-realisation because this wind of promise has flown in Rajasthan as well," Poonia said in a tweet in Hindi.
Terming the political developments in Puducherry "most unfortunate", Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had accused the BJP of destabilising Congress governments to grab power through unethical means.
"What has happened in Puducherry is most unfortunate and yet another case of how BJP is destabilising Congress governments to grab power through unethical means. First, they created problems in running the administration through the Lieutenant Governor and now this has happened... We saw this in Karnataka, MP and now in Puducherry. They tried it in Rajasthan but people of Rajasthan taught them a lesson,", Ashok Gehlot said in a tweet.
"What BJP is doing is only undermining democracy in the country. The people are watching what tactics BJP is adopting and the party will be taught a lesson by electorates in the next elections in Puducherry," Gehlot added.
