Indian Navy on standby as flood situation in Lanka worsens

Indian Navy diving and medical teams have been deployed to assist Sri Lanka Navy operations in the flood-hit southwestern region, as the death toll from the disaster has risen to 180 with 110 people still missing.
Sri Lankan Naval spokesperson Chaminda Walakauluge said in Colombo yesterday that two Indian ships INS 'Kirch' and INS 'Shardul' have arrived and they joined Sri Lanka Navy in extending relief.

Naidu backs Army Chief’s claim on ‘dirty war’ in Kashmir

Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu came out strongly in support of Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat’s assertion on Kashmir where he defended Major Leetul Gogoi who had used a Kashmini youth as ‘human shield’. 
Calling the situation the Indian Army is facing in Jammu and Kashmir a “dirty war” to be fought through “innovative” ways, Gen Rawat stoutly defended the act of Gogoi, a young officer.

For unemployment, blame it on wars: Alibaba.com founder to US

Refuting allegations that expatriates are steeling US jobs, Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba.com, pointed out that US government’s spending on war could be the reason for its spiralling debt and thereby unemployment. 
Citing war statistics, Ma said, “Over the past thirty years, the Americans had thirteen wars spending 40.2 trillion dollars.” 
The Alibaba Chief was speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos. 
If only the US had diverted a part of the money it invested in wars on building up infrastructure, helping the white-collar and the blue-collar workers, the country would not have been complaining of jobs being stolen today, he observed.

Pak terror groups pose threat to our interests: US spy chiefs

The US intelligence community is believed to have informed Congress that Pakistan has failed to stop terror activities operating from its soil. This was disclosed by a Pakistan-based newspaper Dawn. 
"...And because of its failure, these (terror) groups will (continue to) present a sustained threat to American interests in the region, and continue to plan and conduct attacks in India and Afghanistan," a report quoted US intelligence as saying.
"During a Congressional hearing on Afghanistan and the ongoing war against terror elements there, the intelligence chiefs reportedly gave a candid assessment of the situation in war-torn Afghanistan to the Senate Armed Services Committee."

CBI grills Shahabuddin over scribe’s murder

CBI has taken Shahabuddin, the jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader, into its custody on Monday in connection with the murder of Bihar-based journalist. 
Rajdev Ranjan, the bureau chief of Hindi daily Hindustan, was shot dead by bike-borne assailants. In May 2016
The muscleman-turned political leader, Shahabuddin, was taken to the CBI headquarters for interrogation about the murder case. 
On Friday, a special CBI court in Muzaffarpur allowed the investigation agency to take custody of the former MP for eight days.
