Modi for massive waste management campaign on world environment day

New Delhi: Prime Minister NarendraModi on Sunday said a massive campaign of waste management will be launched by the Centre and state governments on the occasion of World Environment Day. Addressing the nation through Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio, Modi said litter bins will be made available to collect solid and liquid waste in 4000 towns of the country on 5th of June. Modi said two types of waste bins will be available - one green and the other blue.

Restrictions in the Valley following gunning down of Hizb commander

New Delhi: Authorities in Kashmir on Sunday imposed curfew-like restrictions in many parts of the Valley to maintain law and order in view of the protests following the killing of HizbulMujahideen commander SabzarBhat in an encounter with security forces. 

The restrictions have been imposed in seven police station areas of Srinagar. However, the district administration has said that admit cards of students appearing in competitive examinations would be treated as curfew passes.

EC denies promising no-holds-barred hackathon

Refuting Aam Aadmi Party’s claim that it had promised a no-holds barred Hackathon, the Election Commission said no such ‘promise’ was ever made by it. It clarified that though it had announced the EVM hacking challenge, it had never made a ‘promise’ of ‘no-holds barred Hackathon’. 
The ‘EVM Challenge’ will be held on June 3.
As regards AAP’s demand to allow changing of the EVM motherboard, the EC said changing the internal circuit of electronic device is like changing device itself.

Regulation to protect animals from cruelty, not to regulate trade in cattle: Govt

A day after notifying the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2017, the Central Government clarified that the prime focus of the regulation is to protect the animals from cruelty, not to regulate the existing trade in cattle for slaughter houses.
In this regard, Environment Ministry issued a release acknowledging some representations received by it regarding certain provisions of the rules. It said the basic purpose of the rule is to ensure welfare of the animals in the cattle market and ensure adequate facilities for housing, feeding, feed storage area, water supply, enclosures for sick animals, veterinary care and proper drainage.

Born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad, Pandit Nehru played a vital role in the freedom struggle of the nation joining the Indian National Congress and was part of the independence movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi.
