Pakistan rejects Rajnath Singh's statement on missile incident, reiterates demand for joint probe

Pakistan on Tuesday reiterated its demand for a joint probe with India over the recent incident of ‘inadvertent' missile launch into its territory, with Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Pakistan foreign minister, describing as ‘incomplete and insufficient,’ defence minister Rajnath Singh's statement in Parliament on the issue.

“What the Indian defence minister said in the Lok Sabha is insufficient and incomplete. It is not enough to satisfy Pakistan. I reject that and demand a joint probe,” Qureshi said in a press conference in Islamabad.

Hamstrung by its poor performance in the recently-concluded state assembly polls, members of the Congress Parliamentary Party agreed on Sunday that it will require additional effort on the part of party leaders to get other opposition parties on board for raising issues unanimously in the remainder of the Budget session.

In the first half of the Budget session, Trinamool Congress, while broadly on the same page as the rest of the opposition bloc, had protested on various issues independently of the Congress party. That ice is unlikely to thaw in the rest of the Parliament session, especially in the aftermath of the Goa poll debacle, where Trinamool’s foray backfired badly.
