Civic poll results reconfirm Mamata’s hold on Bengal; Trinamool makes inroads in hills

Expected to get a clear majority in four out of the seven civic bodies that went to polls on May 14 in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress is all set to take control of the Domkal, Mirik, Pujali and Raiganj civic bodies while BJP ally Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) will retain control of the Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong municipalities.
The Trinamool Congress victory has sprung a surprise by winning in Mirik, located in the hills, where the party had never won in the past.

Kapil Mishra to submit ‘evidence’ of graft against Kejriwal to CBI

NEW DELHI: Sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra has decided to approach the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with ‘evidence’ of corruption against the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Besides, Mishra, who ended his indefinite hunger strike on the sixth day and said doctors would not discharge him until he starts taking liquids, tweeted his intention to move the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in the case.

Lanka shares India’s concern over China-Pak corridor

Sharing India's concern over the Kashmir issue, Sri Lankan Minister on Special Assignment Sarath Amanugama said it is difficult for New Delhi to accept the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as it goes through the heart of Indian interests.
The Lankan minister, who attended “One Belt, One Road” conference in Beijing, said if it would have been some uncontested region, India would have negotiated its way out.

Delhi HC asks CBI to take over probe in Najeeb case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over from Delhi Police the investigation into the disappearance of JNU student Najeeb Ahmad. Ahmad had gone missing after an alleged altercation with a few ABVP students in the university since October 15, 2016.
The student’s mother had made an appeal to the court to transfer the case to the CBI.
