Delhi HC slams CBSE for scrapping moderation policy

The Delhi High Court today termed Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decision to scrap its moderation policy, under which grace marks are given to students in exams for difficult questions, as unfair and irresponsible.
A Bench of acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Pratibha M Singh said the CBSE's decision, which will come into effect from this year, will have a drastic effect on the students.

Consulate in China trying to contact stranded Indian doctors: MEA

External Affairs Ministry (MEA) said the Consulate General of India will provide assistance to the group of doctors reportedly stranded in Shenzhen in China once contacted. Sources said the doctors have not contacted it so far and the CGI is ascertaining details. 
The doctors, who are on a tour to China, got stranded in Shenzhen. The Malad Medical Association arranges annual foreign tour for its doctor members and the requisite fee was paid to the tour operator which was not in turn paid to the Chinese tour agency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stone for various projects of the Kandla Port in Kutch district of Gujarat which included construction of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Convention Center, 14th and 16th Cargo berths, Railway Bridge at Sal junction, Mechanised fertiliser handling facility and purchase of two mobile harbor crane. 
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that infrastructure, efficiency and transparency are the vital pillars of economic growth. Good ports are essential for the progress of India and Kandla has emerged as one of the finest ports in Asia.

NHRC takes cognisance of lynching of seven, issues notice to Jharkhand DGP

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Director General of Police in Jharkhand over reported mob lynching of seven persons on suspicion of being child kidnappers. 
Out of the seven persons, four were killed in the Seraikela Kharsawan district and three in Nagadih area of East Singhbhum district. Expressing serious concern over the incidents, the commission asked for a detailed report within four weeks.

Former coal secretary HC Gupta and others get two-year prison term

NEW DELHI: Former coal secretary HC Gupta was sentenced to a two-year prison term in a coal scam case. A special court in New Delhi awarded the prison term to Gupta, along with senior government officials KS Kropha and KC Samaria. 
Granted bail on the same day, all the three convicts can challenge their sentence in the High Court.
Apart from the prison term, Special CBI Judge Bharat Parasher slapped a penalty of Rs one lakh on each convicts. He also fined Kamal Sponge Steel and Power Ltd (KSPPL), private company, of Rs one crore.
