#PunjabElections: Punjab Belongs To Punjabis: Charanjit Singh Channi Calls Arvind Kejriwal's AAP 'Kale Angrez'

in DNDNews

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday (December 1) dubbed the AAP a party of "kale angrej" trying to win the 2022 state assembly elections, prompting his Delhi counterpart Arvid Kejriwal to retort that he may be black but his intention is fair. Amid the ongoing spat between the AAP and Punjab Congress, Channi resorted to the colourful expression while addressing a gathering at Badhni Kalan in Punjab's Moga district.

"...And now (Arvind) Kejriwal, they say this time Kejriwal (AAP saying they will form next government). Do no people live in Punjab? Are there no youths in Punjab? Are there no Punjabis in Punjab? Will 'kale angrej' come here (the state) and rule?" asked Channi.

He further said these 'kale angrej' are trying to take over Punjab after '(gore) chitte angrej' (Britishers) were ousted from the country earlier. Talking to reporters, Channi elaborated, "We are saying Punjab belongs to Punjabis, you do not create disruptions here. These outsiders 'kale angrej' want to rule (the state)."

#FarmBill: Farmer Union Questions Repeal Bill Passage Without Debate, Punjab Unions Hint At Leaving Delhi Border

in DNDNews

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) - joint platform of protesting farmers - on Monday called the repeal of the farm laws a “historic victory” but questioned the passage of the Bill without debate, saying it could have brought into focus their pending demands, including legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP).

While the SKM, an umbrella body of 40 farmer unions, will discuss the future course of action on December 4, a section of farmer groups of Punjab said they are in favour of ending the agitation at the Delhi border sites. The group of 32 unions from Punjab held a meeting at the Singhu border on Monday.

The Morcha also questioned the government's claims made in the 'statement of objects and reasons' accompanying the repeal Bill where agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar sought to justify the Centre's move to enact the laws in 2020 and enlisted reasons behind the repeal in current circumstances.

#OmicornVariant: India Vows To Stand By Africa, Says All Covax Orders Cleared

in DNDNews

Expressing support for Africa, which has been rattled by the discovery of Covid-19 variant Omicron, the government on Monday announced it had cleared all orders placed so far by the UN-backed Covax programme for supplies of Covishield vaccines, including to African countries like Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia, Mozambique, Guinea and Lesotho.

The government expressed solidarity in a statement with countries, particularly in Africa, that have so far been affected by Omicron. India’s announcement followed China’s pledge the same day to supply a billion vaccine doses to Africa. The MEA said in a statement that India had also cleared supplies of Covaxin to Botswana. “Any new requirement projected either bilaterally or through Covax will be considered expeditiously,” it said.
