16 Amarnath Pilgrims Killed As Bus Falls Into Gorge; PM Expresses Grief

New Delhi: In Jammu & Kashmir, 16 Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 19 others injured after a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on Jammu Srinagar national highway in Ramban district on Sunday.   Security officials said that a bus bearing registration number JK02Y-0594 carrying yatris was heading towards Srinagar for Amarnath cave when it met with an accident after a tyre burst near Army Camp Nachilana under police station Banihal on the highway.

Heavy Rains Paralyse Normal Life In Gujarat

In Gujarat, normal life has been paralysed in several parts of Saurashtra following rain since Friday night. Rajkot, Morbi, Surendranagar and Jamnagar are the worst-affected districts. The death toll in rain-related incidents has risen to seven. 3 people are reported missing.

Teams of Army, Air Force and NDRF have been called for relief and rescue operations and people are being evacuated from marooned villages. Drinking water, food and medicines are being distributed to the 2,000 people shifted to the safer places.

SC asks Centre to stop delaying on the issue of NRI voting

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to decide within a week whether it would amend the electoral law or rules for allowing Non-Resident Indians, NRIs, to vote by postal or e-ballots in the polls in India. 

The court yesterday took note of the fact that the Centre and the Election Commission of India were agreeable to the report of a panel that NRIs may be allowed to vote. The report has been prepared by a 12-member committee comprising officials from the EC and Law and External Affairs Ministries.

Mehbooba Meets Rajnath, briefs on possible Chinese hand behind J&K unrest

New Delhi: J&K Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti met with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh, today in New Delhi for half an hour. She apprised him of happenings in the state and met with reporters afterwards. 

She said that it was outsiders and terrorists who were trying to vitiate the situation are responsible for the ongoing unrest in the state. Furthermore she claimed that China was also involved in the worsening of the security situation.

74 animals meet end at watery graves in Kaziranga

New Delhi: At least 74 animals have already been consigned to watery graves inside Kaziranga sanctuary in one of the worst floods to have hit Assam in past many years. 

Hog deer, one of the smallest deer species, took the maximum brunt. Asiatic wild buffalo, wild boar, sambar, eastern swamp deer have also fallen prey to the flood. Officials have managed to rescue 108 animals so far, out of which four are undergoing treatment, including a rhino calf.

Measures are being taken to hold on to the further casualities. Water levels had reached up to six feet in several parts of the park during the peak of the deluge. Most of the area is being patrolled by the national park officials on boats. At the same time the hygiene of the anti-poaching camps are also been taken care of.
