Amit Shah to contest Rajya Sabha poll from Gujarat

New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah will contest the Rajya Sabha polls from Gujarat on August 8 to make his debut in the Parliament. Shah is a sitting MLA from Naranpura in Ahmedabad.

Health minister J P Nadda made the announcement after the party's parliamentary board meeting. I&B and Textiles minister Smriti Irani will be BJP's other Rajya Sabha nominee from Gujarat. Irani's tenure as an MP of the Upper House ends on August 18.

Nitish Kumar To Return As Bihar CM In Less Than 24 Hours Of Quitting Office

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will take oath on Thursday as the head of the government that would include BJP and its allies.

After meeting governor Keshari Nath Tripathi late on Wednesday, Kumar, accompanied by senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi drove to Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the government.

Modi, who will be sworn-in as the deputy CM of Bihar, told journalists that a list of 132 MLAs supporting the alliance was submitted to the governor who has invited Kumar to form the government. These include 71 of JD(U), BJP 53, RLSP 2, LJP 2, HAM 1 and three Independents.

In Complete U-turn, Centre Concedes Privacy Is A Fundamental Right

New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that privacy is a fundamental right, but a "wholly qualified" one. This led a nine-judge Constitution Bench led by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar on Wednesday to sum up Attorney General KK Venugopal's submission as thus: "You are saying that right to privacy is a fundamental right. But not every aspect of it (privacy) is a fundamental right. It depends on a case-to-case basis."
