Supreme Court rules: No arrest in dowry cases till charges are verified

New Delhi: With an objective to curb the tendency of disgruntled wives misusing the anti-dowry law against their husbands and in-laws, the Supreme Court has directed that no arrest or coercive action should be taken on such complaints without ascertaining the veracity of allegations.

Acknowledging a growing trend among women involved in marital discord to abuse Section 498A of IPC to rope in their husbands' relatives — including parents, minor children, siblings and grandparents — in criminal cases, a bench of Justices A K Goel and UU Lalit said it was high time such frivolous cases which violated the human rights of innocent was checked.

Smarting at being outmanoeuvred, Lalu calls Nitish an 'opportunist'

New Delhi: Intensifying his attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar post-resignation, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad has called him an ‘opportunist’ and accused Kumar of joining hands with the BJP to ensure the CBI and ED raids on RJD leaders and his family members to malign him.

Lalu Prasad also termed Kumar's "anti-BJP" drive as a well-scripted drama and the part of a "fixed game" between the JD(U) and the BJP. “Nitish Kumar is an opportunist. He has not only betrayed the mandate of the people of Bihar, which was against the communal forces, but also the people of India,” he alleged.

Three Cong MLAs In Gujarat Join BJP, May Jeopardize Ahmed Patel’s Chances In RS Polls

New Delhi: In yet another jolt to the Congress in Gujarat, three of its MLAs including the Chief Whip in the Assembly, Balwantsinh Rajput resigned from the membership of the house and joined the ruling BJP. Apart from Rajput, Tejashree Patel and Prahalad Patel, also handed over their resignation to speaker Ramanlal Vora on Thursday. 

All the three the MLAs said that they were disappointed at the state of affairs in the Congress. This move may harm senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel's re-election to Rajya Sabha.

Nitish Back as CM, This time with a BJP Deputy CM

New Delhi: Nitish Kumar, less than 24 hours of submitting his resignation to the governor has again been sworn in as CM, this time with Sushil Kumar Modi of the BJP as his Deputy Chief Minister. 

He was sworn in at 10.00 AM on Thursday. It will be his 6th term as Bihar CM. Nitish Kumar had resigned as the Chief Minister on wednesday citing irreconcilable differences with RJD on corruption charges against Lalu Prasad's son and former Deputy CM Tejaswi Prasad Yadav.
