Congress raps PDP on move to abrogate Article 35-A

in DNDNews

New Delhi: The Congress has assailed the ruling PDP in Jammu and Kashmir over alleged attempts to abrogate Article 35-A of the Constitution which empowers the state's legislature to define its "permanent residents" and accord special rights and privileges to them.

"Raising an alarm on the attempts of abrogation of Article 35-A by the PDP leaders was yet another chameleon attempt by them to deceive the people of Jammu and Kashmir," senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra said in a statement.

Karra, a former PDP leader who resigned as the MP from Srinagar, appealed to the people to realise that tinkering with Article 35-A could take away the right of state subject certificate, which otherwise, was protecting the distinct identity of the state.

Kerala High Court Lifts BCCI's Life Ban On Sreesanth

in DNDNews

New Delhi: The Kerala High Court on Monday quashed the life ban on cricketer S. Sreesanth imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the wake of the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal.

The court passed the verdict while allowing a writ petition filed by the fast bowler, challenging the decision of the BCCI disciplinary committee.

The cricketer had pointed out that the decision of the disciplinary committee imposing the life ban was taken on the basis of a report prepared by an inquiry commissioner appointed by the earlier BCCI. In fact, the inquiry was conducted without following the principles of natural justice, he alleged.
