Government Reconstitutes Existing CBFC For Three Years; Pahlaj Nihlani Fired

New Delhi: The Centre has appointed lyricist Prasoon Joshi as Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification, CBFC, for a period of three years. Mr Joshi has replaced former Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani.

Government has also reconstituted the existing CBFC with immediate effect for a period of three years or until further orders. 

Information and Broadcasting Ministry in a release, yesterday, said, there are 12 members in the new board, which include Ms. Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Vivek Agnihotri and Ms Vidya Balan.

AICTE To Shut Down Engineering Colleges With Less Than 30 % Admissions

New Delhi: With over 27 lakh seats lying vacant in various engineering colleges across the country, All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, has decided to close down those technical colleges which recorded less than 30 per cent admissions in the last five years. 

Speaking at the world education summit, Chairman of AICTE Anil D Sahasrabudhe said that such colleges will be closed down from next year. 

According to AICTE data, there are around ten thousand three hundred fifty engineering institutions in the country that are approved by the AICTE with a total intake capacity of over 37 lakh students. Out of this, 27 lakh seats are lying vacant.

Rotary Club Celebrates the Spirit of Freedom in a Special Way

New Delhi: For those who won’t find music to their ears in Vande Mataram the national song there is a lesson to the world from the deaf and dumb students of the Rotary Institute of Special Children (RISC), Noida.

On Friday a large number of students from the school celebrated the spirit of Independence by songs, dance, poem and other events on the theme of patriotism.

The programme started with the performance by special children who were deaf as well as dumb on the national song Vande Mataram.

FM Says Accounts Named In Panama Papers Being Probed

New Delhi: Finance minister Arun Jaitley has said that every account named in Panama papers is being investigated and asserted that due process will be followed.

"Nobody has ever taken more action than this government has on all foreign account details which have come," Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha while replying to a question during the debate on Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill.

The bill was later passed by the Rajya Sabha. It replaces the ordinance promulgated in May to give the Reserve Bank of India powers to deal with non-performing loans. The Panama papers refer to the leak of the database of offshore law firm Mossack Fonseca that revealed many secret offshore accounts.

Why We See Dengue and Chikungunya Cases in Delhi-NCR

Delhi hospitals have reported 365 cases of dengue till August 5th  this year, more than double of the 171 cases recorded till the same date in 2016, and more than triple than the 119 cases in 2015 — the year when Delhi saw its worst ever dengue crisis.

As for chikungunya, a total of 246 cases have been recorded by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) till August 5, compared to just two cases that were reported in the same period last year, when Delhi had a chikungunya outbreak.
