#Inflation: Petroleum prices hit new high

in DNDNews

New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices soared to new record highs across the country on Saturday after rates were hiked again by 25 paise and 30 paise a litre, respectively. The price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest ever level of Rs 102.14 a litre and to Rs 108.19 in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 90.47 in Delhi and Rs 98.16 a litre in Mumbai. Prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes. The price hike follows international oil prices soaring to near three-year high as global output disruptions forced energy companies to draw more crude oil out of their stockpiles.

The basket of crude oil India imports has averaged USD 78 per barrel in last few days.

#PunjabCrisis: Captain Amarinder Singh Likely To Form New party In Next 15 Days

in DNDNews

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh may form his own party in the next 15 days. According to sources cited by Zee News, if any solution is found after talks with the Central Government on the issue of farmers, then that party will also contest the elections on that issue. However, Amarinder Singh still has the option of going with the BJP.

The Congress fears that the Captain will make it an issue, calling Navjot Singh Sidhu a threat to national security. Along with him, many Congress MPs and MLAs may also go with him. In such a situation, it will be difficult for Congress to win Punjab. That is why Harish Rawat is advising him to support Sonia Gandhi.

After Sidhu's resignation, many Punjab Congress leaders are demanding from the high command to replace Sidhu and make someone else the state president. Many senior leaders including Sunil Jakhar and Manish Tiwari are included in this list. But the Congress high command is not in favour of Sidhu's removal at the moment because this will raise questions about its own decision. Captain will keep repeating the same thing in front of the public again and again.

#DNA-Test: To Be Ordered Only In Deserving Cases, Forcing Someone Infringes Right To Privacy, Rules Supreme Court

in DNDNews

The Supreme Court said on Friday that DNA tests should not be ordered routinely but only in deserving cases. Forcing an unwilling party to undergo a DNA test infringes the personal liberty and right to privacy of the individual, the apex court added.

In situations in which other evidence is available to prove or disprove a relationship, courts should refrain from ordering blood tests, the Supreme Court stated on Friday.

Barring twins, DNA is unique for each individual and can be used to trace family linkages, expose sensitive health information and gather data on a person's identity, the bench said.

"Whether a person can be compelled to provide a sample for DNA in such matters can also be answered considering the test of proportionality laid down in the unanimous decision of this Court in K S Puttaswamy v Union of India, wherein the right to privacy has been declared a constitutionally protected right in India," the bench of Justices R Subhash Reddy and Hrishikesh Roy was quoted by a new agency.

The Indo-Tibetan Police Personnel are deployed in the area.

There was no official comment on the Chinese transgression. According to sources quoted by the PTI, minor transgressions have been taking place in Barahoti because of differing perceptions about the LAC by both sides. However, what surprised the Indian officials was the number of Chinese military personnel who transgressed on August 30, they said.
