Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's formal resignation from the Congress on Tuesday triggered a panic in the party's state unit, which is already struggling with factionalism.
Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi called an emergency meeting of the party MLAs and cabinet ministers after he returned from the Kedarnath pilgrimage.
He was accompanied by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Navjot Sidhu and the party's Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Chaudhary.
The MLAs and ministers, who met at the Punjab Bhawan, claimed that Captain Amarinder Singh was not discussed in the meeting.
