Russia is watching US president Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting “very attentively”, the Kremlin said while remaining largely lukewarm about the outcome of the Ukrainian president's visit to Washington. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that "tens of billions of dollars" already provided by Washington to Kyiv had failed to turn the tide of war.    

Further aid would similarly fail to do so, he said.

Russia launched an attack on Kyiv with eight long-range ballistic missiles before dawn on Monday, injuring four people with debris after air defences fired down the oncoming salvo, according to officials.

The incident, which occurred about 4 a.m. (0200 GMT), was the first serious attack on Kyiv in recent months to use ballistic missiles, which fly quicker than drones and cruise missiles and are more difficult to shoot down.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas war has entered its third month, leading hundreds and thousands of Palestinians to flee south. A week ago, Israel expanded its ground assault into central and south Gaza, where nearly the territory's entire population of 2.3 million Palestinians are crowded, many of them cut off from humanitarian supplies.

Universities have come under scrutiny for how they handled the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which came at the same time as student protests and an increase in antisemitic and anti-Arab hate crimes in the US on college campuses.

Elizabeth Magill, President of the University of Pennsylvania, Sally Kornbluth of MIT, and Claudine Gay of Harvard University all spoke before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce on Tuesday, defending their handling of antisemitic instances on their campuses.

Ukraine's defence and somewhat effective counter offensive against the Russian onslaught has been wholly dependant on tens of billions of dollars in funds and weapons being supplied by Western powers, mainly the US and the European Union.

But over the next few weeks, Ukraine may find its funds and weapons stockpile drying up.
