‘Russian-made’ missiles kill two in Poland; Biden holds NATO, G7 meeting on sidelines of G20

in WORLD

Polish President Andrzej Duda said the government in Warsaw is expected to call for an emergency meeting of NATO members after ‘Russian-made’ missiles strayed into the country and killed two people.

Duda said that it is not clear who launched the missile but said it was ‘Russian-made’.

It is likely that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will view this as an escalation as it is the first time a member of the 28-country military and political alliance has been struck during the ongoing war in Ukraine. The attack follows a 100-missile attack by Russia on Ukraine which led to power outages for millions of Ukrainians and also caused supply issues for Moldova.

Boost for Biden as Democrats retain control of US Senate after key polls

in WORLD

President Joe Biden's Democrats retained control of the US Senate on Saturday, a remarkable midterms election result that defied predictions of a Republican win over both houses of Congress.

Midterms traditionally deliver a rejection of the party in power, and with inflation surging and Biden's popularity in the doldrums, Republicans had been expecting to ride a mighty "red wave" and capture the Senate and the House of Representatives.

But the wave never got much beyond a ripple and on Saturday US networks called the key Senate race in Nevada for Democrat incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto, giving the party the 50 seats it needs for an effective majority.

Chinese infringements into Indian regions are not random... There is a plan: Study

in WORLD

It was not long ago that Chinese President Xi Jinping asked his military leaders to remain ready to win 'local wars'. In fact, only earlier this week Jinping asked the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to remain ready to fight wars. Now, a study has revealed that the Chinese actions in India are not random or arbitrary actions, but carefully executed plans of a larger 'expansionist strategy' to gain permanent control over the disputed area.

The study - Rising tension in the Himalayas: a 'Geospatial Analysis of Chinese Border Incursions into India' by Northwestern University, Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands and the Netherlands Defence Academy - used a database covering 15 years to establish that the Chinese incursions on the west are 'strategically planned and aim for a permanent control'.

Putin orders to raise security standards in the Armed Forces to match ‘real needs’

in WORLD

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the authorities to respond to the needs of the Armed Forces and to raise security standards in the Army to match the "real needs" arising from the invasion of Ukraine unleashed on February 24.

Thus, he stressed that the goal is to "raise the standards of material supply to the Russian Armed Forces, other troops, military formations and agencies with the real needs arising during the special military operation, taking into account the intensity of use of material assets."

The order is included in a document published by the Kremlin on its website following a meeting held last week with the Coordinating Council of the Government and states that the authorities must submit by November 14 the definition of "target" to meet these needs.
