A Delhi court on Friday directed Amnesty International India chair Aakar Patel not to leave the country without its permission, after CBI filed a revision petition against a magistrate court order to withdraw the lookout circular (LOC) issued against him in a money laundering case.
Special judge Santosh Snehi Mann also stayed the court’s direction to the CBI director on Thursday to give a written apology to Patel. “Respondent Aakar Patel is directed not to leave the country without permission of this court, till the next date of hearing,” the court said in its order. The matter is posted for further hearing on April 12.
Patel had moved court on Thursday seeking withdrawal of the LOC which was cited by Bengaluru airport authorities to stop him from boarding a flight to the US on April 6. He had also sought directions to allow him to travel to the US till May 30 to deliver lectures at various universities there.
