Reports Claim Facebook Merging Instagram, Messenger Chats

In a fresh bid to allow cross-messaging among its family of apps, Facebook has reportedly started merging Instagram and Messenger chats. First spotted by The Verge, the update is for both iOS and Android devices.

The update comes with the message: "There's a New Way to Message on Instagram". "Once you hit the update, the regular DM icon in the top right of Instagram is replaced by the Facebook Messenger logo," the report mentioned. Currently, the functionality to message Facebook users from Instagram is not possible. Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014 for $19 billion.

In another step to integrate its family of apps that are being used by 3.14 billion users globally, Facebook has also integrated Messenger rooms with WhatsApp on the Web. People can now access Messenger Rooms which allow group video calls of up to 50 people with no time limit via WhatsApp on the desktop.

Facebook tests new Page layout, removes Like button

Social media giant Facebook is reportedly testing a new design for Pages. The new Page layout appears more like an Instagram and Twitter with the absence of the Like count, Like button and clutter-free design. Pages are generally used by public figures and businesses who create a separate space for themselves to interact with their followers. The feature was initially tested with a few public figures but now more people are getting to test the new design.

As per a TechCrunch report, Facebook is modifying its Pages section, which is used by influencers, politicians, businesses, organizations, and actors among others. In the pictures, we can see that the new layout doesn't feature the Like count. This means that you cannot see the exact likes on your Page, you can simply see a round-up figure. For instance, the current layout shows the exact number of likes on the page, let's say a Page has 2,307, 772 likes but the new design will not show that, it will simply show that you have 2.5 million followers.
