New Delhi: As the world grapples with the novel coronavirus, Facebook has committed $20 million in donations to fight the disease. The social networking giant worked with the United Nations Foundation and the World Health Organization to start a COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, where anyone can go to make a donation.

"Facebook is matching up to $10 million in donations, and 100% of funds will directly support the work to prevent, detect and respond to the outbreak around the world," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on the social media platform on Friday.

"We'll also match $10 million for the CDC Foundation, which will launch a fundraiser in the next few weeks focused on combating the outbreak here in the US," he added. Facebook said on Friday that it is committing to match $20 million in donations, a fraction of its quarterly profit, to support global relief efforts for COVID-19 coronavirus.

New Delhi: Popular video conferencing app Zoom has updated its iOS app to remove the software development kit (SDK) that was providing users data to Facebook through the Login with Facebook feature. Earlier this week, a network traffic analysis carried out by Motherboard said that Zoom for iOS was sending data to Facebook without making any mention of the practice in its privacy policy.

"Zoom takes its users' privacy extremely seriously. We originally implemented the 'Login with Facebook' feature using the Facebook SDK in order to provide our users with another convenient way to access our platform. However, we were recently made aware that the Facebook SDK was collecting unnecessary device data," a company spokesperson was quoted as saying in a MacRumors report on Saturday.

New Delhi: US based search engine giant Google on Saturday launched an educational coronavirus website that contains safety tips and authoritative information about the pandemic. The move comes a week after President Donald Trump held a press conference wherein he claimed Google would be building a screening website for the coronavirus that would direct people to testing sites.

The website, google.com/covid19, is "focused on education, prevention and local resources. People can find state-based information, safety and prevention tips, search trends related to COVID-19, and further resources for individuals, educators and businesses," Google said in a blog post.

"Launching today in the US, the site will be available in more languages and countries in the coming days and we'll update the website as more resources become available. Along with our other products and initiatives, we hope these resources will help people find answers to the questions they're asking and get the help they need," the company added. The search giant also said that it will begin surfacing trustworthy information about the coronavirus directly in search results and Google Maps.

New Delhi: Google has indexed invite links to private WhatsApp group chats, meaning anyone can join various private chat groups (including several porn-sharing groups) with a simple search. According to a report in Motherboard, invitations to WhatsApp group chats were being indexed by Google. The team found private groups using specific Google searches and even joined a group intended for NGOs accredited by the UN and had access to all the participants and their phone numbers.

Journalist Jordan Wildon said on Twitter that he discovered that WhatsApp's "Invite to Group Link" feature lets Google index groups, making them available across the internet since the links are being shared outside of WhatsApp's secure private messaging service. "Your WhatsApp groups may not be as secure as you think they are," Wildon tweeted on Friday, adding that using particular Google searches, people can discover links to the chats.
