Morocco's deadly earthquake destroys cultural sites

In addition to the rising death toll and the thousands of people injured by the powerful earthquake that hit Morocco on Friday, several cultural landmarks have also been destroyed. 

Morocco is home to nine UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the United Nations' cultural organization is making its first cautious assessments of the extent of the damage, though information is still incomplete.

Ruckus in Assam assembly over ‘ ₹10 cr’ Central govt subsidy to CM’s wife

The ongoing session of the Assam assembly on Thursday witnessed a ruckus and a walkout from the opposition members over the issue of alleged subsidy provided under a central government scheme to a firm owned by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi had posted on X (formerly Twitter) accusing the chief minister’s wife of obtaining a substantial Rs.10 crore credit-linked subsidy under the ‘Kisan Sampada scheme’, an allegation the chief minister has refuted.

The lessons from the previous bouts of the infection, coupled with two consecutive years facing the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, have helped Kerala take the virus head-on in its fourth foray into Kozhikode villages.

Extra Ujjwala LPG connections to cost Rs 1,650 crore

The Cabinet on Wednesday pegged the cost of 75 lakh additional free LPG connections, to be given to poor households under the Ujjwala scheme by 2025-26, at Rs 1,650 crore.

The additional Ujjwala connections were announced by the government on August 29 along with a Rs 200 cut in LPG refill price. The approval of the financial implication clears the way for rollout.
