Mumbai airport: Ops to remain suspended

The two runways at Mumbai airport will remain closed for six hours for maintenance works on October 17 and during this period, there will be no flight operations. The maintenance work of both runways will be undertaken between 11 am and 5 pm, the airport operator said in a statement on Friday.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has already been issued to the airlines and other stakeholders six months in advance.

Two rival Punjabi gangsters claim responsibility for Sukhdool Singh’s death in Canada

Punjab's rival gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, in separate Facebook posts on Thursday, have claimed responsibility for the killing of Sukhdool Singh Gill alias Sukha Duneke in Canada’s Winnipeg. Duneke, an alleged ally of the Bambiha gang, was shot dead by unidentified assailants Wednesday.

Duneke was wanted in Punjab in cases of extortion, attempt to murder and murder.

In Manipur, efforts to storm several police stations to free 5 men

Protests in Manipur’s valley pressing for the release of five people, who had been arrested for allegedly possessing firearms and wearing camouflage uniforms, turned violent after a large number of women protesters surrounded various police stations on Thursday.

The situation got particularly heated at Singjamei police station in Imphal West where the officer in-charge’s residence was also vandalised. Police and security personnel responded with the use of teargas shells, leaving three civilians injured.
