SC's Verdict On Same-Sex Marriage Puts Athlete Dutee Chand's Wedding Plans On Hold For Now

After the Supreme Court's verdict on same-sex marriage, athlete Dutee Chand expressed her disappointment at the apex court's order as it disrupted her wedding plans. The SC on Tuesday refused to grant same-sex marriages legal recognition in India. Notably, Chand was among the first Indian athletes to have come out as a lesbian disclosing a same-sex relationship.

"I plan to marry my partner Monalisa. But the decision of the apex court has upset all plans. I have been living with Monalisa for five years. We are happy together and as adults, we have every right to make our own decisions. We hope Parliament passes a law allowing same-sex marriages,” TOI quoted Chand as saying.
