Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: Fresh Landslide Hampers Ops, Evacuation of Labourers Likely by Wednesday

An operation to evacuate 40 labourers trapped in the under-construction tunnel on the Char Dham route in Uttarkhand’s Uttarkashi continued for the third day.

As Drilling to insert the pipes has begun with the help of an ‘auger machine’, authorities believe that trapped labourers are likely to be evacuated by Wednesday. However, a fresh landslide on Tuesday hampered efforts to insert steel pipes through the rubble of the collapsed tunnel.

EC issues notice to Arvind Kejriwal, Priyanka Gandhi over remarks on PM Modi

The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to Arvind Kejriwal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for allegedly making "disparaging" and unverified remarks against PM Narendra Modi and violating the model code of conduct.

The notice against the national convener of the AAP came after the BJP filed a complaint against him on November 10,2023, regarding two posts made on X that portrayed PM Modi in a "disparaging, insulting and defamatory manner". The posts were made on X from the official handle of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Myanmar rebels make gains near border with India

A rapidly expanding offensive by Myanmar’s anti-junta groups has seen resistance fighters capture key towns and regions near the border with India in recent days, fuelling concerns on Tuesday about a spillover of tensions and influx of refugees to the northeastern states.

The offensive by three powerful anti-junta groups, named “Operation 1027” after the date it started last month, initially focused on Myanmar’s northeastern Shan state that borders China. Successes by resistance fighters in Shan, including the capture of towns and more than 100 military outposts, were followed by similar attacks in Chin state and Sagaing region, which both border India.

As the comment was received with a round of applause by Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul, the Sena MP said their action only exposed their pathetic uprbringing. "Aiswarya continues to stand tall despite and inspite their pathetic remarks," Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote.
