Rajasthan Congress leader Manvendra Singh Jasol's car met with an accident that claimed the life of his wife Chitra Singh. The ex-MP and his son, who were also in the vehicle, were injured.

The family were on their way to Jaipur from Delhi when the car collided with a wall in Alwar on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Alwar Additional Superintendent of Police Tejpal Singh said the exact cause of the accident is not yet clear, but it appeared the driver lost control of the vehicle which hit the sidewall of the flyover.

Supreme Court transfers to itself pleas over caste certificate 'scam' in Bengal

The Supreme Court on Monday transferred to itself all petitions related to the alleged scam in issuing caste certificates to candidates aspiring for reserved category MBBS seats in West Bengal after two benches of the Calcutta High Court feuded over starting a CBI probe into it.

A five-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud also advised senior lawyers appearing in the matter to abstain from casting aspersions on either of the two benches of the high court that were involved in an ugly spat.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday slammed the central government over the new University Grants Commission (UGC) draft, which proposed de-reservation of seats reserved for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in case enough candidates are not available.

Rahul Gandhi, who has been pushing for a caste-based census, claimed that the new draft of UGC is a conspiracy to end the reservation given to the SC, ST and OBCs.

Bureaucrat allegedly murdered by unemployed husband in Madhya Pradesh

A sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) posted in the Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh was allegedly murdered by her unemployed husband. The accused, Manish Sharma (45), was reportedly upset with his wife, Nisha Napit (51), for not making him the nominee in service, insurance and bank records, reported PTI quoting a senior police official.

The report suggests that the suspect smothered Nisha Napit with a pillow and washed her blood-stained clothes to destroy the evidence.
