Earmarked separate places for Muslim, Christian, Hindu communities, State Govt informs Bombay High Court

The Maharashtra government informed the Bombay high court last week that it has proposed earmarking separate spaces for burial grounds for the Muslim, Christian and Hindu communities admeasuring 3,000 square meters each.

A division bench of chief justice Dipankar Datta and Justice M S Karnik was informed by advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni that the proposal has been cleared and placed before the minister-in-charge of the urban development department for a final decision.

The HC was hearing public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Mohammed Quereshi in 2016.

Prophet remark Row: Delhi Police arrest Bhim Sena Chief for threatening Nupur Sharma

The administration did not take action against Nupur Sharma (Nupur Sharma), whose comments angered the country. However, Bhim Sena Chief Nawab Satpal Tanwar was arrested for threatening her. He was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police. Expelled BJP leader Nupur had made controversial remarks about Prophet Mohammad Row. As a result, there has been unrest across the country. It has also had an impact abroad. India has to be held accountable in the international arena. 

Tanwar was arrested from his home on Thursday. BJP youth leader Sarpopriya Tyagi had lodged a complaint with the Special Cyber Cell of Delhi Police. That's the basis of this arrest. Tanwar was arrested by Gurgaon police a few days ago for his violent activities. He announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for Nupur Sharma through a video on Facebook. He has also threatened against Nupur. The Delhi Police said he was arrested on the same charge.

Calcutta HC to Bengal govt over non-stop violence in state on Prophet row

The Calcutta High Court has asked the West Bengal government to take strict measures to stop violence in the state following the controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad by the now-suspended BJP leaders. The High Court has also asked it to call in central forces if needed, before the situation goes out of control.

In its order, the High Court said, "Having regard to the apprehension which has been expressed, we direct the State authorities to assess the ground situation in advance and take steps to call for the Central Forces in terms of earlier directions in case if the need so arises, before the situation goes out of control or before any loss of life or property takes place."

Presidential election: Rajnath Singh calls Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray

On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, sources said.

The conversation between Rajnath Singh and Uddhav Thackeray, who heads the Shiv Sena, took place against the backdrop of the July 18 presidential election in the country.

"Singh called Thackeray around 7 pm on Wednesday evening," said an aide to the CM.

Chidambaram resigns from Maharashtra Rajya Sabha seat after getting elected from Tamil Nadu

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra after he was elected to the Upper House from his home state of Tamil Nadu for a fresh term.

Chidambaram was among the 41 winners declared elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha earlier this month.

“Following my election to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Tamil Nadu, I am required to resign my seat from the state of Maharashtra. Accordingly, today I tendered my resignation from the seat from the state of Maharashtra,” Chidambaram said in a tweet.
