VK Sasikala, says she wishes to take AIADMK forward like MGR, Amma

Former AIADMK leader VK Sasikala on Tuesday said that her wish is to take the party forward, the way MGR and Amma (Jayalalithaa) did while adding that Tamil Nadu needs a leader who could walk the talk. Sasikala said, "My wish is to take the party forward the way our leader (MGR) and Amma (Jayalalitha ) took it forward. Our cadres know it well. Not only that, there should be a leader who should be truthful and he/she should not speak different things in past and present so that they can do good things for Tamil Nadu people."

On being asked when she is going to join AIADMK, she said. "I am a general secretary of AIADMK and will go (to party headquarters) when the time comes. On being asked whether the party needs a single leader or not, she said, it will be decided by the party cadres.

AIBA urges CJI to reject pleas seeking expunging of SC judges' remarks against Nupur Sharma

The All India Bar Association (AIBA) has called upon Chief Justice of India Justice N V Ramana not to take cognizance of any letter or petition, addressed to him by lawyers and activists, seeking ‘expunging’ of the remarks made by a bench of the Supreme Court while hearing a petition filed by suspended BJP functionary Nupur Sharma.

The letter by AIBA chairman and senior advocate Adish C Aggarwala said the apex court bench was anguished by the public order disturbances and security threats triggered by Nupur Sharma's remarks and was constrained to make the important and timely remarks in national interest.

The bench made the critical comments against Nupur while rejecting her plea to club all FIRs registered against her for her controversial remarks against the Prophet.

Narendra Modi to become the first Prime Minister to visit Bihar Assembly

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the Bihar capital next week to take part in a function that would be held as part of the centenary celebrations of the state assembly building. According to a Vidhan Sabha statement, Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha has expressed delight over the Modi's scheduled tour on July 12 which will be the first occasion for any prime minister to visit the Bihar assembly. Sinha chaired a review meeting on Tuesday evening with top officials, including Chief Secretary Amir Subhani and DGP S K Singhal, calling for "active participation of all concerned" to make the historic programme a success.

Assam cabinet approves process for identification of Indian Muslims in state

Assam cabinet has approved the identification of five Assamese Muslim sub-groups - Gorias, Moriyas, Jolhas, Deshis and Syeds - as indigenous Assamese Muslim communities, tweeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"At our weekly Assam Cabinet, we took several decisions pertaining to the scrapping of old vehicles, identification of 5 indigenous Muslim groups, exempting ex-servicemen & their widows from paying property tax, boosting renewable energy, and improving data access, etc," Sarma said in a tweet.

The move will ensure their development in health, cultural identity, education, financial inclusion, skill development and women empowerment, added the chief minister.

Devendra Fadnavis says he 'proposed' to BJP leadership to make Eknath Shinde Maharashtra CM

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said he had proposed to BJP leadership to make Eknath Shinde, who had rebelled against Shiv Sena leadership, the new chief minister after the collapse of the MVA government last week. Fadnavis also admitted that he was not mentally prepared to assume the post of deputy CM, but changed his decision after a discussion was held with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and intervention by BJP president JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah.

Fadnavis said BJP leadership believed that he should be part of the government as it was not right to run the government through an "extra-constitutional authority".
